A Dan Air flight operating from London Luton to Bacău, Romania, was forced to divert to Frankfurt on January 2, 2026, after the flight crew received a technical alert related to the aircraft’s ventilation system.
Flight DN402, operated by an Airbus A319-100 registered YR-URS, had departed London Luton Airport and was cruising at flight level 350 when the alert occurred. At the time, the aircraft was approximately 130 nautical miles northeast of Frankfurt/Main Airport. As a precaution, the crew decided to divert to Frankfurt.
The aircraft landed safely on runway 25C about 30 minutes after the diversion decision. After touchdown, the aircraft taxied without stopping to a remote apron, reaching the stand approximately 10 minutes later. No injuries were reported, and passengers disembarked normally.
Dan Air later stated that the crew had responded to a minor technical alert in the ventilation system. Onboard sensors had indicated the possible presence of smoke in the cabin, prompting the precautionary diversion.
The aircraft remained on the ground overnight in Frankfurt for around 15 hours while inspections and checks were carried out. It subsequently continued its journey to Bacău without further incident.
As of approximately 24 hours after landing in Bacău—and about 41 hours after the initial landing in Frankfurt—the aircraft remains on the ground at its destination.
The airline emphasized that the diversion was conducted in accordance with standard safety procedures and that passenger safety was not compromised.
