New details have emerged about the fatal crash of a Cessna 182 at Piseco Airport in New York’s Adirondack region, with a preliminary National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) report revealing the aircraft bounced multiple times on the runway before leaving the airfield and crashing into nearby trees.
The accident occurred on July 12, 2026, and claimed the life of 74-year-old pilot Kenneth Andreu, an experienced flight instructor from Valhalla, New York. Andreu was the sole occupant of the aircraft.
According to investigators, witness statements and video footage show the Cessna bounced repeatedly during the landing attempt before briefly becoming airborne again. Moments later, the aircraft departed the runway environment, struck trees, and crashed. The preliminary report outlines the sequence of events but does not determine the probable cause, as the investigation remains ongoing.
Kenneth Andreu was well known in the aviation community, having served for decades as a Civil Air Patrol member, flight instructor, and educator. His extensive flying background has made the tragedy especially significant for New York’s aviation community.
