‘Flight Of Terror’: Pilot Arrested After Flying Aircraft ‘Extremely Low’, Scaring Beachgoers

A South Carolina man has been arrested after authorities say he flew a plane dangerously low over Pawleys Island, alarming beachgoers.

Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver said authorities received numerous calls on April 10 reporting an aircraft making several unusually low passes over the area. Investigators later identified the plane and opened an investigation.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, CCTV footage showed the pilot was William Roger Williamson III, 50, of Florence. Authorities said the information was then shared with the South Carolina Flight Standards District Office, which recently completed its investigation

Williamson turned himself in on Tuesday morning at the Georgetown County Detention Center, where he was charged with breach of peace, aggravated in nature.

Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the low flights or whether more charges could follow.
