A Cessna 172 Skyhawk Crashes On Monroe Mountain, Utah – Both Occupants Injured As Crash Sparks A Wildfire

Two people suffered injuries after a small plane crash on Monroe Mountain on Sunday afternoon.

The crash of the 1968 Cessna 172 was reported about 12:08 p.m. east of Marysvale, near Anderson Canyon on Monroe Mountain.

An 88-year-old man was taken by medical helicopter to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo. A 59-year-old man was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle, according to the Piute County Sheriff’s Office. No details were released about their conditions.

“As a result of the crash, the aircraft ignited a small wildfire,” the sheriff’s office said. Crews from Marysville, Monroe, the Utah Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service were able to contain the fire to just 1 acre.

The crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
