A regional passenger flight in Nepal ended with a loud bang on landing after one of the aircraft’s tyres burst during touchdown, though the crew managed to keep the situation under control and complete the rollout safely.
On March 4th 2026, a Shree Airlines De Havilland Canada Dash 8 Q400, registration 9N-AOL, was operating flight N9-123 from Kathmandu to Surkhet.
The aircraft landed on runway 02 at Surkhet Airport when its left-hand outboard tyre burst during the landing roll. Despite the tyre failure, the aircraft remained controllable and continued the rollout without further incident.
Airport authorities later confirmed that the aircraft had suffered a tyre burst upon landing. There were no reports of injuries among passengers or crew.
Following the occurrence, the Dash 8 remained on the ground in Surkhet for approximately 18 hours while inspections and necessary maintenance were carried out. After repairs and checks were completed, the aircraft departed Surkhet and returned to Kathmandu.
Upon arrival back at Tribhuvan International Airport, the aircraft remained on the ground for further inspections and had not returned to service about 13 hours after landing in Kathmandu.
